Timberlake Campground at Ross Barnett Reservoir

Timberlake Campground is part of the Mississippi State Parks system. It is located on the southeast corner of Ross Barnett Reservoir. There are 108 sites available for overnight rental and they range from the older shaded section to the newer section which has little shade but great satellite reception. The roads are paved as are all the sites, but of course the newer sites seem larger and are certainly on solid pads.

Timberlake Campground is a great location for those interested in fishing in the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Created by the damming of Jackson' Pearl river, this 50 square mile expanse of water provides sailing, water skiing, bass fishing and a variety of water sports.

There are three bathhouses which are rudimentary but kept very clean. Amenities include 24 hour security, laundry, grills at each site, swimming pool, boat launch and dock fishing. WiFi is also available, but we were unable to receive it just a few yards from the registration office. However the office is very large and makes a great work space if needed.

Upon registering and receiving a map you are free to select your own site. They range from tenting sites to sites for the largest RV. Both 30 and 50 amp service available. In addition to the overnight sites there are many monthly sites, some right on the Reservoir. However, no matter your site you are very close to the water.

The swimming pool is large enough and appears to be well maintained. There are a couple of tennis courts, but they do not seem to be in the best of condition. There is also a playground for children with swings and various playground equipment.

Rates range from $18 to $24 per night for full hookups. Senior rates, 62 and over, are two dollars cheaper than the regular rates. Pets are allowed.

Timberlake is also close to shopping and restaurants. There is a Kroger across the street and a McDonald's about a block away. On the other side of the Ross Barnett Reservoir (about a 15 minute drive) is Cock of the Walk, a great catfish restaurant.

The important question for me is always whether I would return to this location. The answer is a definite yes. Good rates and a great location make this a place worthy of a return visit.
